Last week I couldn’t walk through my garage let alone get anything out like tools to work on other things around the house. I do have the garage organized with metal shelves on wheels so they can be moved and rolled next to each other to open the floor space, but that floor space was being used up by baby and seasonal items not in use. We do have an attic that is mostly finished and used for storage. So, I was resolute to move the stuff off the floor and into the attic, I knew I could make some room! So up I went, early before the sun blazed the roof and superheated the attic. I started in the back and what I discovered made me a bit angry with myself… Empty Boxes! Boxes for computers, printers and some stuff I no longer have…
I realized that those empty boxes played a bigger role in my life… The fact that I perceived that there was no free space available in the attic caused me to limit my activity in the garage, which limited my progress with anything connected to the garage.
Those boxes became to represent a place holder for a belief that turned out to be false and I didn’t question it for so long. If I had questioned it sooner I could have avoided the delays to progress.
How many other empty boxes do I have just hanging out, like in the warehouse where most of Indiana Jones’ stuff ends up?
Question everything; everything changes, every day things that were true yesterday may not be true today or tomorrow. It is lazy to assume for too long that those beliefs are still true; they must be tested and proven true.

Ever been in a casino? Well there is something you may already know or not, the odds always favor the house.
The takeaway; the same is true for each us. We are the “house” in our lives and we have a chance to stack the deck and make the odds favor us in all that we do.
Think and be the HOUSE!
Easier said than done right? Think about how the casinos work the games… They plan them out. Success is as close as planning out what and how you are going to do. Walk thru the plan find the holes and make backup plans that you can switch to quickly without losing time.
Back up plans are necessary, it doesn’t mean that original plan was bad it means the plan has some points of risk and those risks have been covered with alternatives that will keep you in the game.
Now, for the most important thing… You Must Believe In Yourself! You are the house and the house always wins. You have all the resources to finish and never doubt your skills and ability. In this life, we get to choose how we stack the deck in our own lives and no one can take that away from us; however, we can be distracted into forgetting this from time to time.
You will always be confronted with those that will make us doubt ourselves but remember this is just to psych us out… and you are the HOUSE! And THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS!
Courage and perseverance came to mind when I saw the pictures of people taking their future into their own hands. I’m talking about those citizens that were told that their home was going to be sacrificed to save others down river and they should pack up and leave. The images proof to the power of courage and perseverance and a lesson for all.
They had the courage to say no and had the perseverance to save their homes. How many of us, when told by authorities to pack up and leave what you can’t take to be left to the river would do so? Most of us… but not some, they knew they controlled their destiny. In fact, we all are in control of our own destiny and if we show the courage to believe and have faith in ourselves and persist in taking charge of our fate, we will indeed reap that which we seek.
We will always hear opinions about our situation and our fate from others; those opinions are the beliefs of others forced upon us. We must not let them drown out the voice from within, that voice of desire and belief that we can do anything. We always have a choice to believe in ourselves and doubt others, not to always to believe in others and doubt ourselves. Again, take a look at these images of courage and perseverance, and you will see the power that is in us all.
When you have courage and perseverance, you are not alone. Courage and perseverance is a beacon that shines out in all directions rekindling that fire in all of us drawing people and resources toward you. If you find yourself deficient from time to time you don’t have to look far to see to find inspiration, it is all around us.
Be the beacon, encourage others, help those in need and you will see it in turn.
Courage and perseverance is in us all, just brush the dust of doubt aside and let it shine.

Paul: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear’s path, and only I will remain” – from the movie Dune (1984), this is another one of my favorite quotes.
I like the quote because it affirms that when the fear is confronted that it will be released allowing one to advance on.
I often think of this line when I find myself stopping forward progress because of some fear. And I often recite this quote or some variation to friends when they tell me they fear taking a leap into something new.
I thought, this day before what some are thinking is the end or the beginning of the end of the world would be a good time to share this quote. To have some fear is healthy; it makes us think of plan B. I think of some fears as a representation of risk in the lives we lead. With all risk we can assign a number 0-100, 0 being low and 100 being certain… the probability of something happening. Based on the assigned number we either ignore it, figure out how to reduce the number or in some case bury our heads in the dirt, note: last option is not a good option.
If we dwell on the fear and not reduce its’ risk score then we help it grow and give it a chance to come about.
Another quote, “Paul: Some thoughts have a certain sound, that being the equivalent to a form. Through sound and motion, you will be able to paralyze nerves, shatter bones, set fires, suffocate an enemy or burst his organs. We will kill until no Harkonnen breathes Arakeen air.” minus the last part about killing gives clue to a power of our thoughts.
We can bring things into being from our thoughts. We can eliminate our fear and bring love and happiness into our lives. I don’t want to get sappy here, but I do want to convey that there is a power and in most cases an untapped power we have to deal with fear.
“All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players.” A monologue from William Shakespeare‘s As You Like It . We’ve all heard it somewhere, sometime in our lives. This is something we should say to ourselves every day, because we all have a role to play in our personal and business life.
You can see it when a group forms, if the mood tense someone will crack a joke. When the topic seems to stale someone will move the conversation along. When it sounds too good to be true someone will question the soundness of the plan, all the while making the outcome better.
We all have a role to play and sometimes it may not be the lead, this time, but rest assured the part is very important. It takes one out of place cog to bring the whole works crumbling down, one missing track to derail a train…
So, if you think you have a small part to play then play it in a big way. Be the best at that time and in that role and you will have many roles to play in the future.
It takes team work to make a great performance happen and the same is true to complete a project or make life enjoyable. So, play the role presented to you at the given moment and prepare for the next one.
